ABOUT US

INTRODUCTION

Tanzania Health Opportunities (THO) is a registered NGO operating in Tanzania since November 2020, during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the acute shortage of healthcare services and volunteers in community centers, our founders established THO. Our mission is to empower individuals across all sections of society to access quality healthcare, education, and community empowerment initiatives. THO collaborates with doctors, medical students and dedicated volunteers, both local and international, who are passionate about providing and gaining health education, healthcare services, and serving in humanitarian emergencies within Tanzanian communities. By addressing gaps in education and healthcare personnel, THO aims to build a resilient community, capable of preventing communicable and non-communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS,  hypertension and diabetes. We believe that a healthy community is a cornerstone for personal and national development.

Our registration number is 00NGO/R/1506.

We seek sustainable solutions in the fields of education, healthcare and community empowerment.

OUR VISION

The vision of Tanzania health opportunities (THO) is a healthier and prosperous society that fully participates in personal and national development, cultural experiences, and idea exchanges, which are catalysts for positive change in communities, people, children, nature, and our volunteers.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Our social project addresses the critical issue of bridging the gap between medical education and practical clinical experience for aspiring healthcare professionals. Recognizing the importance of hands-on experience in a medical setting, our project focuses on facilitating hospital volunteering opportunities for medical students and other healthcare volunteers. By offering them the chance to engage directly with patients and medical professionals, we aim to enhance their understanding of healthcare practices in tropical medicine, low resources area and improve their clinical skills to apply in the communities.

Our project has achieved several significant milestones:

Increased Clinical Exposure among volunteers:
We have provided medical students with valuable opportunities to observe and assist in low resource healthcare environments, helping them gain insights that are not typically offered within their country.

Skill Enhancement:
Through our volunteering initiatives, participants have been able to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations, refining their diagnostic, communication, and patient care skills under the guidance of experienced medical professionals.

Community Impact:
Our project has positively impacted the community through Outreach we done with our volunteers. This has contributed to better patient experiences and overall community health.
Healthcare Partnerships:
We have collaborated with public and private institutions and hospitals in Dar-es-salaam and across the country to integrate our volunteering opportunities as part of contribution.
